Vernon & District Volunteer Bureau
Funded in part by the Province of BC and United Way

WHO WE ARE                       bee
The Vernon and District Volunteer Bureau has been in operation since 1979. The
role of the Bureau is to act as a ‘brokerage house’ for community volunteers. The Volunteer Bureau recruits new volunteers and makes referrals to Non-Profit Organizations.

We are proud of the fact that our organization is made up of various ages, circumstances, talents, skills, abilities, and life experiences. They all have something unique to give back to our community.

bee  The Coordinator of the Volunteer Bureau is Twylla Genest. Twylla has been at the Social Planning Council of The North Okanagan since 2002. She is an asset to both our community and this office. Twylla moved to Vernon with the idea of retiring, but little did she know that her volunteer position would soon turn into a permanent job position as Manager of the Volunteer Bureau.

Twylla is assisted by Joan Jacobson who also started out as a volunteer program coordinator, but eventually acquired a permanent part-time position.

COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER PROGRAM  bee
This program facilitates both the individuals who wish to volunteer in the community and the non-profit organizations who are in need of volunteers. Prospective volunteers are asked to attend an Orientation Session at which time current volunteer opportunities are presented and discussed with the prospective volunteers.

SENIORS' VOLUNTEER PROGRAM
Seniors have a wealth of knowledge and experience that can be utilized to support the community whether it is teaching younger individuals their crafts and trades or 'seniors helping seniors'. Seniors are often referred to the Seniors Bureau to offer their much needed assistance.
